Deacon Phillippe Shines in a 'Flashy' Silver Suit at H&M Party: 'Disco Vibes' (Exclusive)
The 20-year-old musician spoke to PEOPLE about his love of the brand while celebrating the new collection with Rabanne
Deacon Phillippe may claim that he doesn't wear "flashy" clothes, but his outfit at the Nov. 8 party celebrating H&M x Rabanne would have you thinking differently.
"Usually I'm not this flashy," he tells PEOPLE with a laugh at the launch party while gesturing to his head-to-toe silver suit from the new collection. "But you've got to have those in the bag, those once-in-a-while occasion looks. And that's what I love about this, is that sparkle."
Phillippe's shiny look — complete with logoed Rabanne t-shirt and boots — certainly stood out in a crowd full of sequins and shimmer, and drew every eye in the room. The NYU student, who considers himself a fan of H&M, was more than happy to rock the loud look, proudly showing it off all night.
Phillippe was pulling double duty at the party, held at Jean's in New York City — he was not only there to celebrate, but he was also there to DJ. The 20-year-old son of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, who released his debut album earlier this year, says his silver suit was the perfect fit for the night because it was comfortable and had the right "disco vibes."
"Usually I like to wear stuff that's comfortable, that I can do my job in, which is to make music and perform," he says. "Going out there tonight, I obviously want to wear something that I'm able to perform in — like this suit, which is surprisingly very comfortable."

Phillippe's comfort with fashion — flashy or not — isn't anything new. He's been a fan of dressing well for many years, despite his young age. He tells PEOPLE that when he was younger, he always paid attention to the clothes he was putting on, because it just made him feel good to dress well.
"As a kid, I always loved dressing up and I loved getting ready for going to church," he says. "I liked the feeling of getting dressed up. I feel like you've got to look your best to feel your best."

As he's grown up, his tastes have changed, which means his style has evolved as well. He says he's also leaned into the style of wherever he's living — which has varied widely. He splits his time between Los Angeles, Nashville and New York; all very different vibes when it comes to fashion.
"Just like everything, your life is an amalgamation of all the places you've lived," he says. "Same with my style. I like to incorporate a little bit of that country western vibe with a street vibe."
No matter which vibe he ends up with, though, one thing will ring true for Phillippe — it's going to be classic.
"I think simple is classic and you just got to stay classic."
