The University of Dayton announced the death of Jayda Grant, daughter of head basketball coach Anthony Grant on Friday. Jayda was 20.

Dayton president Dr. Eric Spina and vice president/director of athletics Neil Sullivan released a statement Friday, saying the community is experiencing "devastating heartbreak" following Jayda's death.

Dr. Spina and Sullivan extended their "deepest sympathies" to Anthony and the Grant family.

Jayda was listed as a member of the Dayton track. She did not compete in events as a freshman during the indoor season. The outdoor season in 2020 and the indoor season in 2021 were canceled due to COVID-19.

The Grant family is asking for donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in lieu of flowers.
