Days of Our Lives’ Deidre Hall Remembers TV Husband Drake Hogestyn: ‘He Will Be Missed Beyond Measure’
Days of Our Lives actress Deidre Hall has shared heartfelt words of remembrance about her on-screen spouse Drake Hogestyn.
In the wake of Hogestyn’s death due to pancreatic cancer, Hall issued a statement to Access Hollywood to honor the actor behind John Black — who, alongside Hall as Marlena Evans, created one of daytime television’s most memorable couples.

“For nearly 4 decades, Marlena Evans and I have loved the same man. Marlena’s John is an iconic hero, unfailingly rescuing her from all matter of villains,” Hall said in her statement. “My acting partner was incredibly professional from the moment he entered the studio; flawless in his preparation and ready for any eventuality in any scene.”
She continued: “He was gracious and kind to everyone, from the executive staff to the night crew. Drake loved what he did and adored and respected everyone with whom he did it. Having said that, we always knew that his two greatest loves were his family and the Yankees… Victoria [Post, Hogestyn’s wife] and their children were truly the center of his life. Drake is dearly loved by everyone who ever knew him and he will be missed beyond measure. We will continue, as he always encouraged us, to swing for the fences.”
Hall previously reflected on her working relationship with Hogestyn in May 2023, telling TVLine at the time, “Drake and I are very different. He comes in knowing his lines cold, he hits his mark and he does his thing. I come in and go, ‘Where are we today? What are we doing?’ I sort of fly through it, and if something strikes me in the moment, so be it. There’s really nothing that I plan. If I get moved, I cry. If I get amused, I laugh.”
Hogestyn passed away on Sept. 28 at the age of 70, one day shy of his 71st birthday.
