David Tennant’s wife Georgia has tickled fans with a tongue in cheek Doctor Who reference in the aftermath of the general election.

The actor made a hilarious reference to a 2005 episode of the BBC sci-fi hit, entitled The Christmas Invasion, where David’s Timelord takes down prime minister Harriet Jones (Penelope Wilton). He does so by whispering “Don't you think she looks tired?” to an aide, which leads to a crisis of confidence in her as a leader.

Georgia posted a picture on Instagram that showed her and David pointing towards the Houses of Parliament as it was revealed that Rishi Sunak was out as PM and Keir Starmer was in. She added the hashtag “#turnsouthedidlooktired”.

The post came in the wake of the election, and not long after Sunak weighed into David’s public row with Kemi Badenoch over trans rights. The actor – who has been critical of the Tories - had a pop at the minister for women and equalities at the British LGBT Awards as he picked up a gong for being a top celebrity ally, saying he wanted her to “shut up” and referencing a world where she "doesn't exist anymore".

The Conservatives wanted to amend the Equality Act so that protections it enshrines on the basis of someone’s sex apply only to their biological sex, and Badenoch had been quoted as saying “changing your clothes doesn’t change who you are”.

Plenty of people shared their thoughts after David, who is known to be an ally for LGBT rights, spoke out. Sunak posted on X: “Freedom of speech is the most powerful feature of our democracy. If you’re calling for women to shut up and wishing they didn’t exist, you are the problem.”

Georgia also appeared to reference trans issues in a second post on her Instagram Story in the wake of the election. She shared the words "Now do not let any of them rest until they protect and cherish all of us" emblazoned on a transgender pride flag.
