David and Jessica Oyelowo Ink First Look Deal with Apple

Apple has landed a multi-year, first look deal with David and Jessica Oyelowo’s Yoruba Saxon banner.

As part of the deal, Yoruba Saxon will exclusively develop and produce both features and series for Apple TV+ on a first-look basis.

Previous and upcoming film and television projects from the studio, which is headed by the Emmy-nominated actor, producer, and director alongside his wife, who also serves as an actress, writer and producer, include: “Nightingale,” “Captive,” “A United Kingdom,” “Come Away,” “Five Nights in Maine,” “The Water Man,” “Ferguson Rises,” “Solitary,” “The Return of The Rocketeer,” “Onyeka and The Academy of the Sun,” “The After,” “Biafra,” and Apple’s upcoming “Government Cheese.”

Most recently, the studio developed Paramount’s “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.” Starring and executive produced by the “Silo” alum, the new series scored more than strong opening numbers, setting a record as the most-watched global series premiere of the year for Paramount+. He also starred in and produced Misan Harriman’s Oscar-qualified live action short, “The After.”

Up next for the actor, he will also star in the lead role and executive produce Apple Studios’ and Macro Television Studios’ upcoming dramedy, “Government Cheese,” from creators Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr. The show is based on an eponymous original short film by Hunter, which he and Oyelowo took to Macro and Apple Studios. He currently stars in Apple’s “Silo” as Sheriff Holston. The series was recently renewed for a second season.
