After spending hours preparing a Tuscan chicken dish for her family, Roseanne Flanders noticed something unusual.

While chatting with PEOPLE about the incident, Flanders' daughter Kameron Jane, a musician from Nashville, Tennessee, recalls the moment she knew the meal had gone awry.

"[My mom kept saying], 'Oh my God, oh my God,' " Jane exclusively tells PEOPLE, describing her mom's reaction to the situation.

It took Flanders a minute before she could muster up the words to share what had happened: She had used shower gel instead of olive oil while cooking.

Jane says the mixup happened while her mom had been ordering pantry items online for their new house in Nashville. When searching for olive oil on Amazon, she selected the first bottle that was suggested. Then, without reading the description — due to the size of the order — she added it to her cart.

"At first, we tried to figure out what was wrong, but my dad immediately went into problem-solving mode," explains Jane. "We realized after tasting it that the dish was completely inedible."

Looking back on the mishap, Jane shares how the family favorite, which is "normally delicious," had to be thrown out.

"Nothing was salvageable," she says. "The chicken tasted like it had been marinated in dish soap, and the sauce was sudsy and unpleasant."

After disposing of the food, Jane suggested that Flanders sit down while she ordered takeout. However, with a friend visiting, "my mom insisted on preparing pasta and sauce from scratch (and it turned out incredible too!)"

After realizing what had happened, Jane pulled out her phone and shared her mom's reaction in a now-viral TikTok video, which has received over 11.6 million views. The video has also sparked almost 20,000 comments from viewers wondering exactly when things went wrong.

"Mom likes to eat clean," DoorDash joked in the comments.

"That Tuscan chicken looked phenomenal too. The rage would consume me," another commenter wrote.

"My mom was upset about the food, but told me I could film and post on TikTok, thinking our friends would see it and we’d get some laughs later on," Jane says. "We never expected it to blow up the way it has! Our friends have been texting us letting us know that the video is being posted all over the world and to multiple news outlets."

Having learned her lesson, Jane says her mom has now put the shower gel olive oil in the bathroom and is using it for its intended purpose. "It smells like, literally just soap," she jokes.
