In case you hadn't noticed, Netflix's Dash & Lily features a crossover with Jane the Virgin.
Inside the series universe there's a fake Pixar film titled Collation – an "office romance" between a piece of paper and a stapler – in which Gina Rodriguez (who portrayed main character Jane Villanueva in the aforementioned show) voices a highlighter pen.
Kicking back with TV Line to discuss episode 8 of Dash & Lily, executive producer Joe Tracz opened up about Rodriguez's involvement.
"Brad Silberling, one of our producers who also directed the first two episodes, was also a producer and director on Jane the Virgin. So he was like, 'You know, I think I could get Gina to do it.'
"He reached out to her, she was like, 'Totally!' and she recorded a bunch of different takes of the line. It was so much fun to actually get to pay off one of these writers' room jokes that we had," he continued.
Further into their chat, Tracz revealed that the show's writers room hypothetically cast the in-universe animation.
"Our favourite writers' room parlour game was figuring out which celebrities would voice which office supplies; 'What punny catchphrases do they all have?'
"At one point, we imagined Oprah voicing a Post-It note that said, 'Stick with love!' Between all of the writers, we pretty much cast Collation," he added.
Dash & Lily is now streaming on Netflix.
