Dashcam Captures Norfolk Southern Train Derailment in Springfield, Ohio

Dash camera video captured the moment a Norfolk Southern train derailed and crashed in Springfield, Ohio, on Saturday, March 4.

Video captured by truck driver Timothy Taylor shows the moment a cart smashed into a railroad crossing traffic light.

Clark County officials gave an update on the crash on Monday, March 6, and said there was no threat to public safety following the derailment.

“Clark County Hazmat team, Norfolk Southern and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency have each independently examined the crash site and verified that there is no evidence of spillage at the site,” Clark County emergency management director Michelle Clements-Pitstick said.

A Norfolk Southern communications manager said there were four tanker cars involved in the derailment, however they were not carrying any hazardous materials.

However, it was also acknowledged Monday that other cars on the train did have hazardous contents but those cars were not involved in the derailment.
