Darius Rucker found a way to laugh at himself — even when he took a tumble at a hometown headline show.

On Saturday, Oct. 12, Rucker performed with Hootie & the Blowfish for the annual Riverfront Revival, which he also curates. The homecoming show took place in Charleston, South Carolina after the band's 43-city tour that ran from May to September, closing out 2024 on a high note.

In fan-captured footage, the 58-year-old frontman launched into the first verse of his appropriately named 2009 solo hit "Alright" when he appeared to trip on an onstage monitor and fall face-forward. "I'm old as f---," Rucker admitted with a chuckle to the audience.

But the giggles got the best of him and Rucker took a moment to laugh as touring keyboard player Lee Turner jokingly points to where he tripped. After the song, Rucker took a moment to address the situation, saying, "We've been doing this all summer. I hadn't fell once. But I busted my ass in my hometown."

Last month, Rucker was sentenced to 11 months and 29 days of probation after pleading no contest to one count of simple possession of a controlled substance stemming from a traffic stop in February 2023, according to WKRN. Upon completion, the musician's record will be expunged, Penn Live reported.

He had been arrested February 2024 on two counts of simple possession/casual exchange of a controlled substance and one count of violation of Tennessee’s vehicle registration law, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE at the time.

"It sucks," Rucker told PEOPLE in May. "Fifty-seven years, never seen inside of a police car or jail, and I get busted for that." I mean, I looked back at that and I was like, ‘I got stopped by a police officer and I had a little bit of pot, and I think a little bit of some mushrooms or something in the car, and he let me go.’ And a year later I got a phone call from a buddy that said, ‘I think I just saw an arrest warrant for you.’ It shocked me. And I’m handling it with my lawyers, and paying the price, and we’ll move on with our lives.”
