KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 — Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee today lodged a police report against Machang MP Wan Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal for allegedly making a false police report against DAP national chairman Lim Guan Eng and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In this latest turn of events over the Yayasan Albukhary’s (YAB) tax exemption status, Lee was accompanied by four other MPs — Hulu Langat MP Mohd Sany Hamzah, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman, Kampar MP Chong Zhemin and Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid.

“This accusation has already been proven to have no basis, is untrue, and intentioned to spread false information to the public, as well as lie and give false information to the police themselves,” said Lee.

“This crime has to be taken seriously because it has the intention to play around with and belittle the sovereign institutions of national security and justice,” he added.

Lee was referring to Bersatu politicians’ claims that Lim — a former finance minister — is responsible for the removal of YAB’s tax exempt status.

The claim was first made by Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin earlier this month.

In Parliament last Tuesday, Anwar had stated that finance ministers did not have the power to remove tax exemption statuses and that the power solely belonged to the Inland Revenue Board.

Wan Fayhsal then cited Anwar’s statement in a police report — requesting the authorities to investigate the truth of the matter — and alleged that Anwar and Lim were misleading the public.

Additionally, Lim today filed a defamation lawsuit against Muhyiddin for the latter’s claims regarding YAB.

In the court documents sighted by Malay Mail, Lim wants Muhyiddin to retract his statement, remove all those statements from his social media accounts, and make a public apology to him for the comments in question.
