Danny Dyer has revealed he spent £140,000 on a family holiday after leaving EastEnders at Christmas.

The soap star took his entire family on an all-out trip to the Maldives over the holiday period to repay his loved ones for putting up with his intense shooting schedule.

Speaking to The Times, Dyer said: "It cost £140,000. Best holiday we've ever had. It was a reward for the last year, which was one of the busiest I've ever had."

He added: "It was an horrific shooting schedule. The trip was a complete extravagance but then why do you earn money?"

Dyer also said he wanted to leave the BBC soap to allow him to have more time with his growing family after announcing he was set to become a grandfather again: "One reason I left EastEnders was because I wasn't around enough.

"You've got to try and get in there early with your holiday, because otherwise they give you a holiday in February, and who wants to go on holiday in February?"

The Football Factory star recently said to Jonathan Ross: "I'm a grandfather… he's beautiful, he's such a lovely little boy. She's [daughter Dani] pregnant again with twins. Identical girls. So I'm going to have three grandkids under three by f***ing May."

He continued: "It's petrifying. I am over the moon. It's weird when your kid's pregnant. You worry about them. It's a miracle the whole thing, especially with twins."

Dyer's daughter Dani, who previously appeared on Love Island is expecting twins with her partner Jarrod Bowen, a footballer who plays for West Ham, the team the actor supports.

Dyer also commented on his daughter having children with a West Ham star: "West Ham until I die. You can't tell them who to fall in love with… all of a sudden she's brought home a West Ham player. I couldn't have hand picked a better human being, he's beautiful. He comes round and I get all starstruck."
