Daniel Penny Charged With Manslaughter Over Jordan Neely Subway Death

Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran who killed Jordan Neely in a New York City subway car earlier this month, was arrested on second-degree manslaughter charges on Friday, May 12.

The Manhattan DA’s press secretary confirmed on Thursday that Penny would be charged with manslaughter in the second degree, local news reported. Penny surrendered to the authorities earlier on Friday, video shows.

This footage by Courthouse News Service reporter Joshua Russell shows Penny leaving the 5th precinct in Lower Manhattan with his hands cuffed behind his back. Penny is expected to be arraigned at the Manhattan Criminal Court later on Friday, local media reported.

Penny put Neely in a chokehold for several minutes on a train on May 1 and Neely’s death was ruled a homicide by a New York medical examiner on May 3.
