“Dancing With the Stars” pro Daniella Karagach opens up about miscarriage: 'Everything just kinda went blank'

"I just remember falling to the floor, like, 'I can't believe this happened to me.'"

Daniella Karagach is opening up about her miscarriage for the first time.

The Dancing With the Stars pro dancer recently discussed losing a pregnancy in 2022. "I woke up from excruciating pain," Karagach said in a new interview with Good Morning America, adding that she immediately woke up her husband, fellow DWTS pro Pasha Pashkov. "I was like, 'I don't think this is good.'"

Karagach said she then took a pregnancy test and received a negative result. "One day, I was pregnant, and the next day I wasn't," she recalled. "I just remember falling to the floor, like, 'I can't believe this happened to me.'"

The dancer said her husband was her "saving grace" during the period after the miscarriage, which she described as the "lowest of lows." Said Karagach, "We were going through it together, and I remember we were just holding each other and just taking each other out of it."

Karagach reflected on her initial excitement about having a child and the pain she felt when she lost it. "It was something we wanted and pictured ourselves," she said. "The moment I took that pregnancy test and I saw I was pregnant, I was picturing what clothes I was gonna get, what I'm gonna do, what stroller I'm gonna buy, you know? So everything just kinda went blank."

The DWTS performer also recalled how hearing testimonies from women who'd had similar experiences helped her throughout the process. "I think grieving on your own is so, so difficult," she said. "So when I was looking for comfort, I saw YouTube videos of different women talking about how they're going through the same thing I'm going through."

Karagah said she wanted to share her own story to help others who've dealt with miscarriages. "I want people to know they're not alone," she said. "There's way more people going through it than people think. A lot of them just don't come out and say anything, and you know what? You don't have to. You don't have to say anything. But just know that you're not alone. It's not your fault."

The dancer also admitted that her miscarriage made her more anxious during her later pregnancy. "I just remember at that time taking a pregnancy test every single day until I went to the doctor's office," she said. "I was so scared. Personally, after that happened to me, I was paranoid."

Karagach and Pashkov welcomed their first child, Nikita, in May 2023. "Nikita is literally just like the best thing that's ever happened," she said. "Sometimes we just sit on the couch and just look at her like babbling, running around, and talking this and that. We're just like, 'We created a human. That's crazy. After everything we've been through.'"
