Dana Carvey confirms he'll be back on “SNL” this December, admits he 'can’t do Elon Musk very well'

"He has an incredible accent," Carvey said. "I can do something that sounds not like anything."

Dana Carvey isn't done with Saturday Night Live just yet.

The Wayne's World star, who spent seven seasons on the sketch show in the '80s and '90s, revealed on his podcast Superfly that he will extend his tenure as a special guest in December. Carvey didn't make a big deal out of the announcement — instead, the revelation occurred in the midst of an anecdote with an entirely different focus.

"When you leave the good nights at SNL, sometimes you do it with the host," he explained. "You go under the bleachers and you come out. So I think it was John Mulaney. He just went right before me, and I think he was going, and then he started skipping. And I started skipping too, and skipping feels really good compared to walking or even running. It's kinda gentle."

He continued, "So now, if you ever see me on SNL — I'm going back in December — you see me come off the stage, just remember, within seconds, I will be skipping for quite a while. That's kinda inside baseball."

Carvey made a surprise return to SNL in the cold open of the season 50 premiere in September, playing President Joe Biden opposite Maya Rudolph's Kamala Harris, Andy Samberg's Doug Emhoff, and Jim Gaffigan's Tim Walz. He returned as Biden in every subsequent episode of the season so far, with the exception of the Bill Burr-hosted episode on Nov. 9, in which he instead played Elon Musk celebrating Donald Trump's electoral victory.

The comedian admits that his impression of the Tesla founder isn't his strongest work. "I can't do Elon Musk very well," he said. "But I can do something that sounds not like anything. He has an incredible accent — South Africa via Canada, via Pennsylvania. It's almost like, it's a little bit of Australian in there, a little bit of British."

Carvey didn't clarify who he intends to play when he returns to the show next month, but there shouldn't be any shortage of real-life material for him to lampoon, as Biden's presidency will last through mid-January and Musk insists on making headlines for his role in the Trump administration and his various business ventures.

Saturday Night Live returns on Dec. 7 with host Paul Mescal and musical guest Shaboozey. The show typically airs two or three episodes in December, so Carvey will probably still have a few more opportunities to return before Biden leaves office in January.
