Cowboys lineman Ty Nsekhe released from hospital after suffering heat-related illness

Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman Ty Nsekhe was released from the hospital on Friday morning after he suffered a heat-related illness at practice on Thursday afternoon, the team said.

Nsekhe is now recovering at home, but will not play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.

“He suffered some heat illness symptoms after practice yesterday,” coach Mike McCarthy said Friday, via the team. “The medical staff felt it was best that he spent the evening at the hospital.”

Nsekhe’s “symptoms were noticeable” in the team’s training room after practice on Thursday, after the team’s “heavy practice work” day occurred when temperatures reached 90 degrees, the team said. EMT's treated Nsekhe at the practice facility before transporting him to a local hospital via ambulance, where he stayed the night.

"I think anytime you're dealing with heat issues, it's never comfortable," McCarthy said, via ESPN’s Todd Archer. "I think when an individual needs to get an IV, being dehydrated is an uncomfortable feeling. You have guys that may have cramped after hot practice like that, but it's never a comfortable feeling."

Nsekhe is in his first season with the Cowboys after spending the past two seasons with the Buffalo Bills. The 36-year-old went undrafted out of Texas St. and briefly spent time with the St. Louis Rams before reaching a four-year deal with the Washington Football Team in 2015. He is on a one-year, $1.25 million deal with the Cowboys.

Dallas’ string of line issues

Nsekhe is just the latest Cowboys lineman to become unavailable this week.

Right tackle La’El Collins was suspended five games last week for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Barring an appeal, he won’t be able to return until Oct. 31 for Dalls' game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a broken foot at practice this week, and needs surgery before he can potentially return in November. Fellow defensive end Randy Gregory was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday, too, and may not be able to play with the team Sunday in Los Angeles.

To add to it, Cowboys assistant defensive line coach Leon Lett suffered a leg injury at practice and needs surgery, per The Dallas Morning News’ David Moore.

The Cowboys will take on the Chargers on Sunday afternoon at SoFi Stadium and are listed as 3.5-point underdogs on BetMGM.
