A dad and four children have died after a fire tore through a Pennsylvania home overnight, while a mom and two other kids were rescued.

Crews responded to the blaze on Guy Street in Jeannette around midnight on Wednesday, according to a public information report from Westmoreland County Coroner Tim Carson that was obtained by PEOPLE.

Eight people were inside the home when the fire began, CBS affiliate KDKA-TV reported.

According to the coroner's report, five of the victims died, including Tyler J. King, 27, Kyson John, 7, Kinzleigh John, 6, Keagan John, 3, and Korbyn John, 1 month.

ABC affiliate WTAE-TV and NBC News reported that King is the father of the four children.

Deputy Coroner Steven A. Whiteman pronounced the victims “dead at the scene,” according to the coroner's report. Autopsies are scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

“It's a sad night here tonight,” Jeannette Fire Chief Bill Frye said, per WTAE, while confirming the three other victims did survive. "Our firefighters and some bystanders and the police officers initially on scene were able to rescue three people from the house. An adult and two children."

According to NBC News, the mother and two children — reportedly 10 and 1 years old — are being treated at nearby Pittsburgh area hospitals. However, the "severity of their injuries is still unclear," the coroner told the outlet.

The Jeannette Fire Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Neighbor Jack Mull said he told his daughter to call 911 after he stepped outside his home and saw the house on fire, according to KDKA and NBC affiliate WPXI. He then attempted to help the victims inside.

Initially, Mull tried to access the home’s basement, but was forced back by the flames, per KDKA. He then grabbed a nearby ladder, which he and an officer used to reach a mom and two kids, who had fled to the roof of the burning building.

One of the children was having trouble breathing, while the other had a broken leg. The mother “got burnt” while trying to go back into her home and help other members of her family, Mull said, according to the outlet.

Eventually, Frye said, the home became completely involved and flames, and crews were ordered to pull out. “I wish I could have done more but the flames were just too much for everybody,” Mull explained, per WPXI.

According to the outlet, crews had problems with the fire hydrant they attempted to use near the home, which impacted their water supply.

The fire eventually spread to the home next door. Both homes are considered total losses, WPXI reported.

“Please keep the family and the first responders who responded tonight in your thoughts and prayers as we go in the coming days and weeks here in the city,” Frye said, per WTAE.

Additionally, Jeannette City School District superintendent Matthew Jones announced in a statement to families, shared Wednesday by WPXI, that “multiple members of our school district” were among those killed in the blaze.

Grief counseling and other forms of emotional support are being made available to those impacted by the tragic event, he added.

“We understand that this tragedy may have a profound impact on our school, and we are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to help everyone cope and heal,” Jones said, per the outlet.

Jones did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
