Additional evacuation orders were issued in Santa Cruz County, California, on August 19, as a series of fires known as the CZU Lightning Complex burned nearby, fire officials said.
The 25,000-acre blaze had destroyed at least 20 structures and was threatening more than 8,000 others by that night, a California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) report said. Authorities had issued evacuation orders for more than 22,000 people across San Mateo and Santa Cruz counties.
The CZU Lightning Complex includes “multiple large lightning-caused fires” in both counties.
