Cyclone Mocha Hits Myanmar's Coast
Cyclone Mocha reached Myanmar’s west coast on Sunday, May 14, as millions of residents there and in Bangladesh were bracing for the severe storm.
According to Myanmar outlet Mizzima, more than 16 million people in the country could be impacted by the cyclone.
Hundreds of thousands of residents of Rakhine state fled their homes ahead of the cyclone’s landfall, The Irrawaddy reported.
The severe cyclone threatened Myanmar and Bangladesh “with violent winds, flooding, and landslides,” a World Meteorological Organization official told UN News.
