Curious Bear Makes Sure Wildlife Center Worker Passes Smell Test

One of the founders of an animal rescue center in Otisville, New York, had to take a seat when one of the center’s resident bears wanted to perform a smell test, footage shared to YouTube shows.

Founded by Jim Kowalczik, Susan Kowalczik, and Kerry Clair in 2015, the Orphaned Wildlife Center, nurtures orphaned animals, in the hope they can be returned to the wild.

In this footage, Jim Kowalczik can be seen playing around with two of the center’s bears, both of which take an initial interest in how he’s smelling. However, one bear takes a particular interest, with Kowalczik eventually taking a seat so the curious animal could get a proper sniff.

The center often shares videos and updates about the animals in its care to its YouTube channel and Facebook page. This footage was originally posted in March 2020. Credit: Kerry Clair via Storyful
