Leeds star man Crysencio Summerville wants to become one of Europe’s elite, and he believes he is “ready” to make that happen.
Summerville was a slow starter at Elland Road. He left Feyenoord as an 18-year-old, and mostly played for Leeds’ academy upon joining.
The winger impressed in the academy side last season, scoring six goals and providing one assist in 13 games. Alongside that, he was eased into the first team, making six appearances, all from the bench.
This season, Jesse Marsch has shown faith in the 21-year-old’s abilities. After sitting on the bench for much of the opening period of the season, he has now been given an opportunity to shine.
He has found a way to do that particularly well. Indeed, in his last three appearances, Summerville has scored three goals.
The first of which was a consolation in a 3-2 loss against Fulham.
He then scored a shock late winner over Liverpool the following game. That was a weighty goal, as it ended Reds’ defender Virgil van Dijk’s 70-game unbeaten streak at Anfield.
Summerville followed that up with another late winner, this time in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Bournemouth.
Indeed, the Dutchman has shown he has a knack for creating big moments.
Summerville ready for the big time
Despite having started just three Premier League games, Summerville is targeting a big future.
“One goal of mine is that in the long run I want to be among the better players in Europe,” he told De Telegraaf.
“I then think: you can just dream and work towards that, can’t you?”
Indeed, the Leeds star has gotten himself onto the right path at Leeds. While those are big expectations, it’s clear he can be a very impactful player.
With that being said, it will likely still be a while until he reaches that goal. His consistency at the moment shows he has what it takes to be a big player.
Summerville struggles detailed
As will as detailing his lofty ambitions, Summerville also admitted the struggles he went through last season.
“Last year I sometimes regretted not playing, but looking back on it now, I was not one hundred per cent ready to play in the Premier League,” he said.
“Only now I can say that I am really ready, that I can show myself as well.”
Indeed, Leeds fans will be happy for Summerville’s ambitious nature. That could well lead to more big results for the Whites, given he wants to push himself to succeed.
