Crowds Gather for 'Battle of Oranges' in Italian Town's Tradition
Thousands flocked to the streets of Ivrea, Italy, for the second day of the northern town’s annual “Battle of the Oranges” on Monday, February 20, where participants start the carnival season by pelting oranges at each other.
Footage by Damian Valle shows revelers throwing oranges from a horse-drawn float.
The tradition has its roots in the reenactment of a mythic 13th-century rebellion, according to the carnival’s official website. Credit: Damian Valle via Storyful
