Afghanistan’s Taliban government said at least 1,000 people were killed and hundreds were injured after a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern Paktika and Khost provinces on Tuesday night, June 21.
Hundreds of homes were destroyed across the Paktika districts of Gyan, Naki, Barmal, and Ziruk, and the Khost district of Spera, according to the country’s national disaster management agency (NDMA). Most of the deaths were recorded in Paktika province, they said.
