When it comes to the signs of aging, there’s fine lines, there’s wrinkles and then there’s crepey skin. And if your skin falls into the latter category, we have the solution you need.

Thin, loose and wrinkled, crepey skin resembles crepe paper. And it typically affects the face, neck and chest areas, according to dermatologist Dr. Shari Sperling. “As you get older, you lose collagen and elasticity, causing thinning of skin and texture,” she explains.

According to Dr. Sperling, crepey skin can also be caused by smoking and poor nutrition, but is “most commonly found in sun-exposed areas.” She suggests using a mineral-based sunblock with SPF 30 or higher to protect skin and prevent further damage.

There’s also one over-the-counter solution Sperling recommends to improve the appearance of crepey skin: Differin Gel.

The drugstore product is known for its acne-banishing powers, but because it’s made with retinol, it has an anti-aging effect. “Retinol helps improve the tone and texture of skin by increasing the turnover of cells,” says Sperling.

Retinol is known to stimulate collagen and therefore improve skin’s elasticity that has been broken down from sun damage and aging. Double down on improving the look of crepey skin by incorporating a Vitamin C and E serum into your skincare regimen, suggests Sperling, who adds: “Antioxidants help rejuvenate skin.”

It’s time to say goodbye to crepey skin once and for all!
