Creed 3 has officially gained a director – and it's a familiar name too, as the film's star Michael B Jordan has signed up to direct the film, as well as reprise his role as Adonis 'Donnie' Johnson Creed.

The next instalment in the series, which is a spin-off from the Sylvester Stallone-starring Rocky series of boxing movies, will further develop Donnie's story as he continues to pursue glory in the ring.

The news that Jordan will be sitting in the director's chair for Creed 3 was confirmed by actress Tessa Thompson, who plays singer and Donnie's girlfriend Bianca Taylor in the Creed movies, as she told MTV News that she has plans to tease Jordan about his recently-awarded 'Sexiest Man Alive' title.

"He is directing the next Creed," she confirmed, before joking about his 'Sexiest Man Alive' crown: "It's going to be ammo, I think, for me, when he is engaging with me as a director. I'm just going to tell him to dial down the sexiness.

"We're not gonna make it until later in the year. Who knows what happens? I don't know if he'll still be the Sexiest Man Alive in six months. It could be Nnamdi [Asomugha, Thompson's co-star in new romance movie Sylvie's Love]."

Thompson, who also stars as Valkyrie in the MCU, continued to joke that she is going to "pretend it hasn't happened", promising that she is already preparing some pranks to play on her on-screen partner.

"I don't need this. I don't need the Sexiest Man Alive to be... you know what I mean?" she said. "I just don't need it. I don't need any of it. It's too much for me to shoulder. It's too much for me to handle.

"No, I'm proud of him. I'm so happy for him. And I will give him a lot of crap about it in person and I cannot wait. I need to start developing, like, pranks around all that."

Be warned, Michael B Jordan – pranks are coming your way...

Creed 3, which will be written by Zach Baylin, marks Jordan's directorial debut as he follows in the footsteps of Stallone, who directed four of his Rocky movies.

The plot for Creed 3 has not yet been revealed but we can almost certainly expect to see Donnie, who is the son of boxing legend Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), continue to pursue his boxing dreams, having been mentored by Rocky (Stallone).
