KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Covid-19 infections from the Tawar cluster increased by 12 new cases today, resulting in 33 total cases the Health Ministry said.

The cluster which was first detected in Kedah now has 10 new cases there and two new cases in neighbouring Penang.

“This brings the total number of cases detected positive Covid-19 for this cluster to 33 cases,” Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement today.

He said that as of 12 noon today, a total of 657 individuals from three states had been screened for Covid-19.

In Kedah, 520 have been screened to date; 30 were found Covid-19 positive while 472 individuals tested negative. The results for 18 are still pending.

In Penang, 129 have been screened to date; three were found positive, 119 negative and seven are still waiting for their results.

In Perak, eight were screened and none tested Covid-19 positive.

Dr Noor Hisham said that active case tracking and close contact screening is ongoing for this cluster.

He also said the Muda cluster, also in Kedah, registered one new case today.

The Muda cluster was first detected in the Kuala Muda district and first announced yesterday with two infections.

As of noon today, 133 people have been screened; 27 tested negative while 103 are still waiting for their test results.
