KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- The Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) has urged the motorsports community to temporarily postpone all motorsports activities until the situation surrounding COVID-19 improves.
According to a statement issued by the MAM today, the decision was made based on the directive from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Sports Commission and in consultation with the MAM medical commission.
However, if organisers decide to proceed with its scheduled events, MAM highly recommends it to be held with minimal personnel and spectators, as in a closed event format.
Organisers are also expected to take a responsible approach towards personal hygiene to reduce the risk of infection and follow the guidelines provided by MOH and the World Health Organisation (WHO) for participants attending that event.
This would include providing hand sanitisers, sanitising all touchpoints in public areas more frequently and encouraging a general cleanliness culture.
"MAM is monitoring the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) decisions on all sanctioned events.
"It is sad but fully understandable that major events have been cancelled to avoid spreading the COVID19 virus. We will continue to engage with the relevant Malaysian authorities and update the motorsports community regularly," said the statement.
