MELAKA, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM) has allocated over RM1 million to help the target groups affected by COVID-19 especially during the period of Movement Control Order (MCO).
Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali said the assistance include an additional of RM100 in monthly food assistance for 8,640 poor and Muslim convert recipients which totalling RM864,000 to be channelled directly to the ‘MyAsnaf’ system.
He said an emergency food assistance, between RM50 and RM100, totalling RM50,000, would be given out to those who have run out of food supply especially from the low-income group (B40).
“The cleaning volunteers, asnaf, poor and Muslim converts who are unable to work during the MCO period, involving 289 individuals, will receive RM260 each with a total allocation of RM75,140.
“Meanwhile, RM17,000 has been allocated for the prevention and treatment assistance for the COVID-19 medical front liners involving the purchase of standing fans, hand sanitiser, vitamin C and food supply for hospitals, namely, the Melaka Hospital (RM10,000), Jasin Hospital (RM3,500) and Alor Gajah Hospital (RM3,500),” he said in a statement here today.

Sulaiman said RM5,000 was allocated for the purchase of dry food and containers for persons under investigation (PUI) currently placed at the Public Works Department’s Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Technology (CREaTe) in Alor Gajah, which has been turned into COVID-19 quarantine centre.
Meanwhile, RM6,000 was allocated for cooked food supply for the police personnel at the front line at three district police headquarters (IPD), namely, Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah and Jasin, he said.
Other than that, he said, MAIM will be providing early assistance payments totalling RM2.52 million including monthly food assistance for April (RM1.58 million), monthly aid via bank (RM833,520) and monthly cash aid (RM10,250).
He said a total of 7,922 recipients can now claim the monthly food assistance for April beginning yesterday while the monthly aid via bank for March has been credited on March 15.
The monthly cash aid for March involving 653 recipients will be credited between March 23 and 27, he said.
