Courtney B. Vance Shares the First Thing He and Wife Angela Bassett Did After Becoming Empty Nesters
The couple shares twins, daughter Bronwyn Golden Vance and son Slater Josiah Vance, 18
Courtney B. Vance and Angela Bassett knew exactly how to cope with becoming empty nesters.
As a guest on The Talk on Tuesday, Oct. 22, the actor, 64, opened up about how empty nesting has been for him and wife Angela Bassett, 66, who sent their 18-year-old twins, daughter Bronwyn Golden and son Slater Josiah, off to college earlier this year. The dad of two explains that their kids had a "grueling schedule" in high school, "so when they were home, they really were grinding in their rooms."
Little did Vance know that Bassett had a plan in place following college drop-off day. "When we came home from dropping them off, Angela grabbed my hand," he begins. "I said, 'Where we going, baby?' She said, 'Come on.'"

"So we went into their bedrooms and we just stood there," he continues, adding that the two stood silently and looked around each kid's bedroom for a few moments. "Then she said, 'Ok, I'm good,' " he recalls of Bassett, adding, "And it is good!"
As for how the twins are doing at school, Vance says the two are booked and busy, sharing, "I was just texting Bronwyn, and Slater was supposed to come home for his mid-fall break."
To their surprise, Slater called up his parents and said, "No Daddy, Mommy, I'm going to go to New York and hang out with some of my friends in New York," Vance recalls. The proud dad then reminded his son to update his sister on his plans.

"They're only two hours apart from each other, but there's no excuse not to be in touch," he adds.
Vance then shared how proud he is of children, as well as himself and Bassett for the way they raised them.
"We worked really, really hard, and you do the best you can," he says. "When people say to us, 'Your kids are very well mannered and they are very polite,' I say, 'They better be.'"
