Ever since Cougar Town ended, there's been a large Courteney Cox shaped hole on our screens, but that's all about to change.

Over the weekend, the Friends star confirmed she's going to be reprising her role as news reporter Gale Weathers in the fifth Scream film. She shared the news on Saturday with an Instagram post of the ionic Scream mask alongside the caption: "I can't wait to see this face again."

Courteney will be joining ex-husband David Arquette, who will be returning as Dewey Rile, while Neve Campbell is thought to be reprising her role as lead character Sidney Prescott.

The late Wes Craven directed all four films in the franchise, which started with the first Scream movie in 1996. The new project ~ scheduled for a 2021 release ~ will be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who were behind 2019 comedy horror Ready Or Not and are both part of the production group making the movie.

They told Deadline, "We can’t imagine Scream without the iconic Gale Weathers and are so incredibly thrilled and humbled to have the opportunity to work with Courteney. We’re absolute mega fans of her work and we’re so excited to join her in the next chapter of the Scream saga!”

It looks like 2021 is already shaping up to be a very good year for films.
