Countdown parties to usher in New Year 2023 (VIDEO)
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 — Although the customary New Year’s Eve celebration at Dataran Merdeka has been cancelled in solidarity with flood victims, party goers can head elsewhere to welcome 2023.
We have compiled a list of countdown events happening near you that will make the celebration a memorable one.
Grand Wave New Year Countdown at Sunway Lagoon
Join multi-platinum DJ Alan Walker to ring in the New Year at the Surf Beach from 6pm.
Besides Walker, there are also R3HAB, DJ Havana Brown, Mariana BO and RayRay.
Our very own Joe Flizzow, SonaOne and Yonnyboii will also be bringing the house down.
Entrance to the event is via ticket.
Countdown Party at Sunway Velocity Mall
Head on down to Jalan Peel, Kuala Lumpur, to usher in the New Year with a bang.
Starting at 5.30pm, there will be carnival games, a food truck lane and a countdown party featuring artistes such as Ayda Jebat, Priscilla Abby, Haqiem Rusli, Vanessa Reynauld, Skipper, Liesl-Mae, JE and Gaston Pong. .
Countdown parties will not be complete without a fireworks display which will happen when the clock strikes midnight.
Entrance to the event is free.
Desa Park City
The township has been a popular place for New Year's Eve celebrations, from food to drinks and fun.
There is also a large-scale fireworks display.
This New Year Eve, the park will be taking on the Nordic light as the theme.
There will be seven different lighting art installations as check-in points, allowing visitors to enjoy the beautiful and unique lighting installations and take pictures.
Harith Iskander Bye Bye 2022
Laugh your way into 2023 with Malaysia’s stand-up comedy legend Harith Iskander.
The Godfather of Stand-up Comedy promises classic bits and hilarious new material in the show which will begin at 9pm.
Tickets are priced between RM100 (show only) and RM200 (with dinner).

Yacht Party in Penang
To be held at Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal from 6pm, you will be accompanied by a beautiful scenic view of Penang skyline with upbeat music spun by DJs as you usher in the New Year.
There will also be amazing views of fireworks display, festive feast and a toast of champagne when the clock strikes midnight.
The party will be on top of the Lili Marleen yacht which will not leave the harbour.

Auto-City in Juru
Head on over to Auto-City in Juru, Penang for the New Year countdown from 6.30pm.
There will be live music and dance performances in front of Starbucks.
Gurney Paragon Mall
Count down to 2023 with the mall, which faces the beautiful Gurney Drive in Penang.
Bid goodbye to 2022 at the party to be held at the Festive Square from 8pm.
