There's a good chance you've found yourself with some extra time at home over the past few weeks. If you've already taken every virtual tour possible and scrolled through Tik Tok to no end, we've got a fun creative endeavor for you to embark on. All you'll need is some cardboard and a wild imagination. Did I mention that you could also win money?

Samsung has teamed up with design website Dezeen for the Out of the Box Competition. This global contest challenges contestants to repurpose cardboard package into new innovative objects for the home. While contestants are free to design whatever they want, the judges, a group of Samsung executives and Dezeen editors, are specifically looking for a functional object that anyone at home could easily assemble using everyday tools. The object created should not require any specialist skills or equipment. In other words, really ~think outside the box~.

The contest was inspired by Samsung's new Eco-Packaging, which is used to case the Serif, Frame, and Sero TVs. This new packaging aims to reduce waste by providing customers with a way to repurpose their boxes into something new and creative. Each box is printed with a special dot matrix pattern, so customers can cut, fold, and reassemble it into a new piece. If you look below, a cat house was assembled using the cardboard packaging from Samsung's Serif TV. Those who purchased a television with this packaging can scan the QR code on its box for design ideas. But for this contest, the piece designed must be completely new.

According to the rules, the first place winner will win $10,000, the runner up will receive $5,000, and the third place will receive $3,000. Fourth and fifth placed entrants will receive $1,000 each. Anyone over the age of 18 can submit their cardboard for creation for a chance to win a cash prize, until May 29, 2020. The rules do not specify that the cardboard packaging has to be from a Samsung TV. You can view the official rules here.
