Costa Rican hybrid sailboat could curb carbon emissions
This hybrid sailboat could lower carbon emissions
Location: Punta Morales, Costa Rica
200 workers from 27 nations are building a sailboat
that aims to transport cargo without polluting the environment
The vessel is named Ceiba
It will rely on wind power with two auxiliary electric engines
for maneuvering in ports and low winds
(SOUNDBITE) (English) AMERICAN WORKER, LOGAN MCMANUS, SAYING:
''It feels great to be part of something this big and such a scale. The ship itself, of course but also the impact it's going to have. I really hope to see the effect it will have on shipping and the way that we export our goods from Costa Rica and all of this. I decided to come here, partly because of that but also because of the intrigue of the build itself for such a huge vessel."
