Coronation Street's Yasmeen Nazir tries to break her silence over her husband Geoff Metcalfe's abusive behaviour next week.

Yasmeen is horrified when Geoff (Ian Bartholomew) deliberately locks her in a box that he uses for his magic shows, wanting to make her suffer after she accidentally ruins one of his tricks.

Upcoming scenes see Yasmeen step in as Geoff's assistant when he performs at Tianna's birthday party. This includes being part of his "crushed in a box" trick, although when Yasmeen gets claustrophobic and panics, this part of the act goes wrong.

Although Geoff paints on a smile in front of the gathered crowd, he privately makes it clear to Yasmeen that he's not impressed.

Geoff is further infuriated to discover that a video of the act going wrong has been uploaded online. He accuses Yasmeen of making him a "laughing stock", then cruelly points a camera phone in her face while filming and goading her.

Later in the week, Geoff seizes another chance to torment Yasmeen when she climbs back into the box at home. Geoff secretly locks her in and heads out of the house, leaving Yasmeen terrified.

When Geoff returns home, he finds his son Tim (Joe Duttine) comforting a newly-released Yasmeen. He insists that he left the box open, but Tim is not so sure.

Yasmeen also seems close to breaking point when she confides in Eileen Grimshaw that Geoff deliberately locked her in.

Sensing that he is losing control, Geoff starts playing for sympathy by telling Yasmeen about his ex-wife, who supposedly abused him.

Shelley King, who plays Yasmeen, explained: "There is a moment when Geoff thinks he might have gone too far and we see the abject need that he has to be loved and cared for, and so he starts talking about the abusive relationship.

"He is trying to draw Yasmeen the mother and protector in, but has he gone too far?"

Yasmeen will also be part of Coronation Street's 10,000th episode storyline, which sees a number of the Street's characters head on a coach trip to Blackpool.

When Yasmeen goes along without Geoff, he's paranoid that this is the moment she'll seize control and get her freedom back.

Shelley added: "We have seen her thinking about what happened and we don't know what she is feeling, but she is out with him and at the last minute decides to go on the coach trip.

"This is Geoff's worst nightmare after what has just happened, the thought of her on that bus with people asking questions, and he rings her often during the trip."

Coronation Street airs these scenes next week on ITV.
