Coronation Street spoilers follow from the Christmas Day special.

Coronation Street villain Geoff Metcalfe made a surprise reappearance in the show on Christmas Day.

The evil abuser was killed off earlier this month, but is never far from the mind of his wife Yasmeen after the terrible ordeal that he put her through.

Corrie's hour-long festive special saw Yasmeen try to move on from her hellish year by having Alya Nazir, Ryan Connor, Cathy Matthews, Brian Packham and Alex Warner round for Christmas dinner.

Sadly, as Yasmeen tried to oversee the preparations at Number 6, she was haunted by bad memories of Geoff shouting abuse at her when they lived together in the house.

Ian Bartholomew reprised his role as Geoff for a haunting moment where Yasmeen saw a vision of her late husband, tormenting her from beyond the grave.

As Ryan was carving the turkey, Yasmeen was confronted by a vision of Geoff doing the same thing in his magician's outfit.

'Geoff' said: "I made you a promise. I said I'd protect you. All I tried to do was make you safe. Day in, day out. Well, I keep my promises. Merry Christmas, love!"

A horrified Yasmeen sunk to the floor in fear, forcing her friends and family to cut short the celebrations before a delayed Brian and Alex had even turned up.

Alya soon regretted letting Yasmeen take on so much on the big day, although things improved slightly when Geoff's first wife Elaine Jones turned up and offered Yasmeen some advice on how to cope.

Yasmeen's frightening moment comes as part of Coronation Street's promise to keep exploring how Geoff's abuse has affected her in the long-term.

Shelley King, who plays Yasmeen, recently said: "I think catharsis for Yasmeen is a long journey. With the help of the producers, scriptwriters, directors, the whole of team Corrie, I hope and know we will keep exploring this.

"It won't always be about that, but I think it should always be there in one's head, otherwise it would be untrue."

Coronation Street continues on Monday, December 28 at 7.30pm on ITV.
