Cops nab man in Muar suspected of killing mum in rage, knife and axe seized

MUAR, June 19 — A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of brutally killing his 73-year-old mother in Taman Temiang here last night.

Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Raiz Muhkhliz Azman Aziz who confirmed the arrest in a statement today said officers rushed to the scene immediately after being alerted to an altercation between the man and the woman at 8.20pm yesterday.

“Initial investigations revealed that the victim, who is a local woman, was killed at the scene. She suffered serious injuries to her head and neck.

“The incident is believed to be triggered after the victim scolded the suspect for being noisy. This caused the suspect to go berserk and assault the victim on her head and neck with a sharp weapon,” Raiz Muhkhliz said.

He said the son was arrested on the spot.

“Police also recovered a kitchen knife and an axe that are both believed to be used in the incident,” he said

He added that further checks revealed that the suspect has a past psychiatric record.

He added the victim's remains have been sent to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital here for an autopsy.

Raiz Muhkhliz said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty upon conviction.

“The Muar district police advised the public to maintain close monitoring on individuals suffering from psychiatric problems.

“This is to avoid endangering the life and properties of individuals, family members and the general public,” he added.
