COPS HUNTING MAN WHO FIRED SHOTS IN PULAU GAYA

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- Kota Kinabalu district police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said about five to six shots were fired by a suspect using a long-range gun and injuring three including two children in Kampung Lok Urai, Gaya island, yesterday.

He said preliminary investigations revealed the 30-year-old suspect fired the shots at a bridge in Kampung Lok Urai, Gaya island while riding a pump boat.

"According to several witnesses, the suspect from the boat fired five to six shots, allegedly using a long-range rifle. However, we cannot determine the type of gun used by the suspect, ” he said when met at the Kota Kinabalu district police headquarters today.

On the motive of the incident, Habibi said the police were still investigating the motive behind the shooting, including the possibility that they were not random shots.

Habibi said police were looking for the suspect believed to be hiding in Kampung Pondo, Gaya island.

He said the police, especially the Kota Kinabalu Criminal Investigation Division and the Special Investigation Division (D9) of the Sabah Contingent Headquarters (GPA) had conducted surveillance and monitoring at the scene to detect the suspect and prevented him from fleeing.

In the incident yesterday, a man and two children aged 10 and three were seriously injured after a gunshots fired by an unidentified man on a bridge in Kampung Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya hit them.
