Construction for a medical facility at the State University of New York at Stony Brook was underway on Monday, April 6, as state officials mapped out a plan to relieve hospitals overburdened by an influx of coronavirus patients.
This drone footage, provided by the United States Army Corps of Engineers’ New York District, shows the construction site for the facility in Stony Brook, New York. The US Army Corps of Engineers said the 1,038-bed facility will be for patients who do not have COVID-19.
The Jacob K Javits Convention Center in Manhattan has also been transformed into a 1,000-bed temporary hospital. Additional hospital locations at SUNY Old Westbury and the Westchester Convention Center were announced as part of New York Gov Andrew Cuomo’s plan to supply beds and health care for coronavirus patients statewide.
