On Monday, December 2, LVMH announced the opening of the 2020 LVMH Young Fashion Designer's Prize. Applications to participate in the competition, which must be submitted online at www.lvmhprize.com, will be accepted until February 2, 2020.
A springboard for young creative talent, the LVMH Prize selects a laureate who will benefit from 300,000 euros in funding and a year of mentoring provided by a specialized team at LVMH. In a second competition, the recipient of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize, which was renamed in 2019 in honor of the great designer who died last February, will receive 150,000 euros and also benefit from a year of mentoring.
With a few weeks left before the end of the year, LVMH has announced that applications are now being accepted for the 7th annual LVMH Prize. The competition is open to designers from anywhere in the world, who are under the age of 40 and have already produced at least two menswear, women's wear or unisex ready-to-wear collections.
Since its launch in 2013, the LVMH Prize has been awarded to a number of designers who have gone on to become major figures in the fashion industry, among them Hood by Air, Thomas Tait, Jacquemus, Marques'Almeida, Grace Wales Bonner, Marine Serre, and Rokh. Last year, the much-coveted distinction was awarded to South African designer Thebe Magugu, while Hed Mayner was the winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Prize.
LVMH will announce the names of the jury and the international committee of experts that will select the finalists in early 2020.
