SINGAPORE — A fault in a track point caused delays of up to 25 minutes for North-South Line (NSL) MRT commuters on Wednesday (8 February) morning.

This was the second time NSL line had been disrupted during the morning peak hour in the last three days.

SMRT said in a Facebook post at 6.45am that the fault had occurred between the Sembawang and Admiralty MRT stations.

It added that engineers had been deployed on-site to recover service.

"Train services are available, with trains moving at a slower speed between Woodlands and Yishun stations in both directions. Free regular bus and bridging bus services are also available between those stations," SMRT said.

At 11.30am, the operator was still recommending adding up to 25 minutes to commuters' travel time and taking alternative routes, such as the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL).

Longer travelling time expected between Yishun and Woodlands

The delay was first announced at 6.58am, with SMRT tweeting that commuters should expect an additional travel time of 10 minutes between Yishun and Woodlands.

It added that free regular and bridging bus services were available between those stations.

It later revised the estimated additional travel time to 20 minutes, before extending it to 25 minutes at 8.59 am.

The incident on Wednesday followed delays on Monday that held up commuters on the NSL and TEL.

Last Thursday (2 February), a train fault also caused longer commuting hours on the TEL, making it the fourth disruption on SMRT-operated lines in over a week.
