Colin Jost Can Thank 'SNL' for Meeting His Wife Scarlett Johansson

Longtime Saturday Night Live fans are familiar with Colin Jost. He has been on the show for almost two decades, starting off as a writer in 2005 before becoming a Weekend Update co-anchor in 2014. He's also about to tackle another TV genre, as he's set to host Pop Culture Jeopardy! on Amazon Prime beginning on December 4. But what is his life like away from the small screen? Well, he stays busy with his wife Scarlett Johansson and their family.
Like most Hollywood romances go, Colin and Scarlett's love story began on set. The two first met back in January 2006, when Scarlett was brought in to host an episode of SNL season 31. The two kept in touch after that, and more than a decade later, the two sparked dating rumors when she appeared on the SNL season 42 finale in May 2017.
"The first time she hosted was the first year I was a writer on the show," Colin shared with People about the first time the couple met. "So, we've kind of known each other since then … she's the best."
Although Scarlett had just gotten out of a relationship with ex-husband Romain Dauriac (who whom she shares daughter Rose), she and Colin quickly became an item. They made their public debut in November 2017, and they later became TV couple official when Scarlett appeared alongside Colin in the closing section of a SNL episode one month later.
While the couple kept their romance quiet, they clued in fans when they reached an important milestone in their relationship. In May 2019, the two revealed they were engaged, with Scarlett confirming the news when she hosted SNL for the sixth time in December of that year.
"This place means so much to me," she said in the opening monologue. "I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here."
A year and a half later in October 2020, Colin and Scarlett wed in a small ceremony with just family and loved ones due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It wasn't long before the two revealed they were expecting their first child together, welcoming son Cosmo in August 2021. What's more, Colin announced the news of Cosmo's birth on Instagram, with Scarlett sharing more details about their life as parents at the 35th Annual American Cinematheque Awards in November of that year.
"I feel very fortunate that I've been able to take this time to really enjoy the early stages of my motherhood with our son," she told Entertainment Tonight at the time. "It's been wonderful. I'm in a 'baby bliss bubble.'"
The couple have since supported each other in various work endeavors (like Colin making appearances in Scarlett's videos promoting her skincare line The Outset). Scarlett also shared why she loves being with Colin and what makes their marriage successful during an appearance on the Goop podcast in April 2023. According to the actress, their romance works because Colin gives her the feelings and things she didn't even know she needed out of a relationship.
"I never realized, 'Oh, it's really important for me, I need to be with a compassionate person. That's a fundamental characteristic that has to be there,'" she shared at the time. "It worked with Colin and I because I was finally able to step back and respect myself enough to know what those [fundamental wants and needs] were."
