Coin Disbanded After Chase Lawrence Had "Revelations" About Bandmates
Remember summer 2016? Life was simpler then, and the wind blew through your hair as you drove with your windows down, blasting COIN's “Talk Too Much” at full volume. Well, it's now 2025, and the band behind the hit has since broken up.
On January 28, lead singer Chase Lawrence posted a lengthy statement to Instagram, announcing that COIN had officially disbanded. “I have recently become aware of revelations around my bandmates and want to share some thoughts directly with all of you,” he said, adding, “I believe in accountability and doing what’s right.”
Chase revealed that he had decided to stop working with the band's drummer, Ryan Winnen, three months ago and recently cut ties with guitarist Joe Memmel. Without specifying the allegations made, Chase revealed in his statement that certain behaviors from his bandmates didn't align with his own values, adding, “Creating a space for love & joy through music has always been my mission.”
He continued, “Discovering that this space has been compromised by the actions of others is truly heartbreaking. Unfortunately, these developments have led me to the decision that COIN can no longer continue as a band.”
Chase also confirmed that the band's upcoming tour dates have been canceled in light of their breakup and apologized to fans for “the disappointment this may bring.” Despite his departure from COIN, he reassured listeners that his musical journey is far from over, saying, “There’s a lot to figure out about the future, but I know I’m not done making music yet.”
According to Stereogum, the decision came weeks after the band announced that they would tour without Ryan, who reportedly departed earlier this month “to focus on some personal matters.”
The alt-pop trio was formed in 2012 and made up of Nashville-based musicians Chase, Ryan, and Joe. They released four albums together and performed at festivals like Bonnaroo and Forecastle over the years.
