The US Coast Guard said two people had a narrow escape after a pleasure craft caught fire in the Florida Keys on January 7, sending flames and a large plume of smoke into the air.
According to Keys Weekly, those on board managed to escape the fire via the boat’s inflatable dinghy. The report also said that the cause of the fire was “mechanical failure.”
US Coast Guard Station Islamorada said the “vessel became fully engulfed” when they arrived on scene. Later, commercial salvage operators moved the boat in to shallow waters “as they worked to extinguish the flames.” Credit: U.S. Coast Guard Station Islamorada via Storyful
