SEBERANG PERAI, March 17 — Penang has sufficient land to meet the needs of industries for the next five years with Penang Technology Park in Bertam, adding to the land bank by about 800 acres (323.7 ha), said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The Penang lawmaker said the state faced an acute shortage of industrial land about two years ago and Penang Development Corporation (PDC) had been working hard to get additional lands ready.

“We welcome the private sector to venture into industrial park development so the groundbreaking ceremony of this industrial park is timely to put 800 acres of land in the market for investors to come to Penang,” he said in a press conference after the official groundbreaking ceremony of Penang Technology Park @ Bertam.

The Penang Technology Park @ Bertam, developed by Ideal Property Group, is open to electrical and electronic and high technology factories.

According to Ideal Property Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri Alex Ooi, they will take two years to complete the infrastructure work for the lands to be ready for sale to interested investors.

The land is expected to have a total gross development value of RM4.2 billion.

Ooi said they have already been getting enquiries from interested corporations from Europe, Taiwan and China.
