Organizing your closet and drawers can be daunting...and, frankly, a little boring. You can feel clueless confronting a disheveled, uninspiring mess. We're here to help with some tips to turn your what-to-wear morning routine into a visit to a luxury boutique. Merchandising experts even employ some of these tips at your favorite department stores.

Hangin’ Tough

We love this trick to keep tanks and strappy dresses dangling pretty. Grab hot-glue gun that's been collecting dust in your junk drawer and zig-zag a line of sticky stuff onto the top rail of your wooden and plastic hangers. Once cooled, the semi-tacky surface will keep straps secure and your floor mess-free.

Wann try a more chi-chi alternative? Try velvet hangers. They're great because they add an upscale look and their nap will grab onto your items, helping to keep them secure.

We're Hooked on this Jeans Hack

Jeans can be bulky and tricky to store. Stick them overhead and they’re tumbling down on you; fold them in a drawer and you've got to go digging for the pair you want – so what can you do? Use an S-shaped shower hook to hang 'em! Fold pants vertically so that the front zipper is exposed, thread the two back loops onto the shower hook, then place the hook on your closet rod. It’s aesthetically smart and looks just like your favorite boutique displays denim.

Boxed In

Trade secret: merchandising experts at intimates stores stash items thoughtfully by placing them in smaller containers. It escalates the shopping experience and looks polished and organized. The good news: You can pull this off easily, too. Start by removing everything from your drawers. Begin sorting like-items together. Once you have a lay of the land, use shoeboxes and pieces of cardboard to create custom dividers. You can create spaces small enough for a few pairs of socks to larger areas that will cozily house bras, athletic wear, leggings and so much more.

Go a step further and try expandable drawer organizers. These are a customizable and sturdy addition to your clothes-organization team and make for a quick grab-and-go situation when you and your kids are trying to get yourselves out of the house in the morning rush.

Let’s Roll

Speaking of grabbing-and-going: When it comes to shirts and sweaters, it’s all about the roll! Instead of layering them, folded, into your drawer, roll and stack them upright so you can see everything at a quick glance, just like at your favorite small boutique. Added bonus: You’ll know all too quickly when it’s laundry day.

Sure, we're dropping all this science on you in the spirit of spring cleaning, but there's a bigger principle at play: If everything has a home, it’ll be easier for you to stay organized all year round.
