Calcium carbonate, known as limescale, can quickly build up on taps that run hard water.

It tends to sneakily accumulate on shower heads and kitchen sink taps, leaving hard white deposits around the spray holes and a cloudy film over the rest of the faucet.

Not only does it look unattractive, but you might also end up finding chips of it in your food and drink, and over time it can irreparably damage your taps.

If you’ve ever tried to scrub away limescale, then you’ll know it’s no easy task... that is, unless you have this little £4.85 contraption: the Limey Tap Descaling Gadget.

In short, it saves us time and money (by making our cleaning products go further), which reduces stress. What’s not to love?

How it works:

You simply fill Limey with your chosen descaling solution, and then slide it over the end of your problem tap. The solution inside will rest inside the nozzle of the tap and break down the limescale over a prolonged period of time. You can then take the Limey off and do the same to your next tap, and then the next one.

What the reviews say:

With over 1,000 reviews and a strong 4.1 out of 5 star average, there are plenty of positive comments, including:

  • “This is a great little innovation that helps me fight the pesky limescale on my taps without endless scrubbing. It used to feel like a hopeless task in my hard water area. Now I just use white vinegar inside the gadget on every tap in the house [every] so often and they are shiny and clean.”

  • “I didn't have high hopes I admit, But oh... my... gosh! A little bit of white vinegar and a Limey, and job done!”

  • “It's a well designed piece of plastic that does the job rather better than any alternative I have found. I have a variety of taps (tall kitchen spouts, wider shallow hand basin taps and larger bath taps) and, half filled with white vinegar, it removed all the limescale from all of them.”

  • “I’m sure I’m not the only one who has tried one leaking contraption after another. I was buying vinegar when this also showed up, and I couldn’t be more grateful. Fill it with whatever limescale remover you use, push it gently in place and leave it on. No need to check to make sure it’s not leaking or coming off the tap. Even on the straight tap in the kitchen it stayed on overnight. Cleaning limescale on the end of the taps no longer feels like a fight with gravity.”

  • “Just fill with vinegar and the scales literally fall off the tap. Best thing I've bought in ages.”
