A Classic Disney Attraction Is Getting a Major Overhaul — and Some Fans Are Not Happy with the Changes

Frontierland’s Country Bear Jamboree at the Magic Kingdom is set to unveil its revamped show this summer

Disney World’s Country Bear Jamboree is gearing up for a major transformation this year — and some loyal fans of the attraction are not thrilled about the changes.

According to the official Disney Parks Blog, the Magic Kingdom attraction will unveil its new show this summer as the Country Bear Musical Jamboree. All of Grizzly Hall in Frontierland will close temporarily starting Jan. 27 to complete the transformation.

While the revamp promises to include some familiar tunes that fans of the singing bears know and love, the blog post says that the bears will also "sing new, reinterpreted Disney tunes in different genres of country music — like bluegrass, pop-country, Americana, rockabilly and other styles.”

Country Bear Jamboree was one of the last attractions that Walt Disney helped develop before his death in 1966, according to the park’s official website. The beloved animatronic bears have been singing their famous show tunes at the Orlando, Fla. theme park since it opened in 1971.

While some fans were quick to express their excitement over the update in the comments section of the blog post, others were worried that the new show wouldn’t be as good as the original.

“I am looking forward to the new animatronics and the new show. Our family loves the bears,” one person wrote, adding, “We hope the bears' personalities and tones stay the same.”

Another park goer commented that songs like “Blood on the Saddle” were what kept their family coming back to see the show and that they hope Disney will incorporate those nostalgic tunes in the new musical.

“Sad to lose the original classic show,” wrote another fan. “I’ve hoped for the full-length version to return ever since it was cut down in 2012.”

Along with Country Bear Jamboree, Frontierland’s Splash Mountain is undergoing a transformation into Tiana's Bayou Adventure based on the 2009 Disney animated film The Princess and the Frog.

Disney first announced news of the reimagined ride in June 2020 and Splash Mountain officially closed in Jan. 2023. Some fans were not ready to let go of the ride and even tried to sell water they claimed came from it online for as much as $25,000.

In June 2023, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure started to come to life when a water tower-shaped structure was installed and park goers continue to see new additions — most recently a custom-made iron weathervane.
