A protest against pension reform in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo turned chaotic on Wednesday (November 10) when some demonstrators tried to break into the city council building. Police fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters who responded with rocks and glass bottles. Several protesters were injured in the clashes, according to local media. The new municipal law means that around 63,000 retirees who earn more than the minimum wage will start to contribute to local social security at a rate of 14 per cent.
