Clashes and arrests at Greek inflation rally

STORY: Police fired tear gas to disperse a group of protesters throwing stones and petrol bombs at police. A car and some shop windows were also damaged, police said.

Thousands of workers went on strike demanding higher wages to cope with inflation, as Europe's soaring energy prices and living costs trigger industrial action and protests across the continent.

Police said some 20,000 protesters took part in the Athens march to parliament.

It is the latest labor action in Europe, where a growing cost of living crisis and rising energy prices following Russia's invasion of Ukraine have led to strikes this month in Britain, France, Spain, and Germany, the region's biggest economy.
