British nationals and “entitled persons” were evacuated from Kabul, Afghanistan, on August 16 amid a Taliban takeover of the country, the UK’s Ministry of Defence said.
The UK’s military was conducting the evacuations for British nationals and “former British staff eligible for relocation under the Afghan Relocation and Assistance Policy (ARAP)”, according to a statement.
Vice Admiral Sir Ben Key, who according to the BBC was running the evacuation, said they hoped to evacuate between 6,000 and 7,000 people.
