Civil Guard Monitors the Flooded Streets of Spain's Huelva Province

Members of Spain’s Civil Guard patrolled flooded streets in Huelva province on September 23, after torrential downpours caused flash flooding in southern parts of the country.

This footage released by Guardia Civil shows cars submerged in floodwater on the streets of Lepe, one of the flood-hit towns.

As much as 100 mm (about 4 inches) of rain accumulated in parts of Huelva province over a 12-hour period into September 23, according to the Andalusian Meteorological Agency.

Local newspapers reported that as much as 60 liters of rain per square meter fell in an hour as Spain’s national weather service issued a red warning for three provinces, including Huelva. The helpline Emergencias 112 Andalucia said it managed over 600 incidents. Credit: Guardia Civil via Storyful
